Today I encourage you to wash at the cross of Jesus as you meditate on “Run To The Father” by Cody Carnes.

Scripture

John 3:20-21

20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

Devotional

‘Whatever hides in the darkness, remains, but whatever is brought into the light is healed’, this is one of the core principles of Christianity. In order to see our sin dealt with, we can’t keep it in the dark, we’ve got to allow it to be seen by God and others. This verse is a sharp encouragement that if we want to be people of the truth, then we need to come into the light. It is certainly a challenging and confronting thing to bring your sin and shame into the light but there are also beautiful things that will happen as a result.

Firstly, the light of the world, Jesus Christ will thaw you out in the warmth of his love and forgiveness. While sin remains hidden, it remains cold, hard and painful. But when it is brought before Jesus it is put in its proper place and what was causing us such pain is relieved by the light of his glory and grace.

Secondly, it postures you for healing within the community of believers. The Bible says that we are to “confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” (James 5:16) Healing often comes through confession before others, as their kindness, encouragement and prayers bring the warmth of the gospel and it’s power into our hearts.

How are you going with opening your heart up to God and letting him speak to you about what’s in it? And how are you going confessing what is going on before God’s people? I know that you are here because you want to be healed, you want breakthrough, well the word of God says that the only way to see this happen is through bringing sin into the light! So don’t be afraid to open up your heart to God today, and be completely honest with him about where your relationship is at.

Prayer

Spend some time with God today in confession, opening your heart to Jesus, the light of the world, and see as he brings warmth and healing through his love and mercy.
