Laying bare the heart

When we go through waiting seasons, like Israel did as they waited for Moses to come down Mount Sinai, the idols in our hearts are exposed.

Pay attention to the tension. In the waiting, what idols are surfacing? The desperate need to have people’s approval? Anxiety driven by a lack of financial security? Loneliness fuelling temptation to turn to sexual sin or distraction?

Waiting seasons always expose what’s lurking beneath the surface in our hearts, so pay attention right now and ask yourself the hard questions. What idols can I see coming up to the surface of my heart?

Then, take time to repent. Bring these idols to the foot of the cross and lay them down, not to be picked up again.
